David Lord, Founder and CEO of Guidesly

Mentor

David Lord

Founder & CEO, Guidesly

20 years working together

I have worked with David Lord for 20 years. The companies are RazorGator, Knowledge Adventure, and now Guidesly. He has mentored me through that whole span, and we have built products and teams side by side.

This page is my account of that relationship. It is not his biography, and it is not an official Guidesly page. His portrait is the one published on Guidesly’s story.

What I mean by mentor is specific. He has stayed close to the work: product, technology, and delivery. I have stayed with that partnership instead of treating each company as a separate chapter. The India GCC I lead today is the current form of it.

Where we worked together

  1. RazorGator

    Where it started

I was Technical Lead at RazorGator Technologies in India. This is where I started working with David. We re-architected razorgator.com and ticko.com around service-oriented design, SEO, and performance.

  2. Knowledge Adventure

    JumpStart

We worked together again at Knowledge Adventure. I was Principal Software Engineer and Development Lead. I led the first cloud migration, moving the servers off Rackspace and onto Azure, and I also led server work for the CuDOS learning ecosystem and School of Dragons.

  3. Guidesly

    Where we are now

I lead Guidesly’s India Global Capability Center from Bangalore as Director of India Operations and Head of Technology. David is Founder and CEO. The India center and the public AI work, including the AWS Machine Learning Blog post on trip reports, are the current chapter of the same 20-year partnership.

What I still use

Hands-on technology leadership with operational ownership. Ship the product. Treat an India center as a capability, not a cost line. Stay aligned with the same people across companies when the work is still the work. That is the through-line from RazorGator to Guidesly.
